Until the arrival of the big KRX, the Teryx had a lot to carry on its shoulders, as its mission was to perform the functions of an recreational vehicule and also to show its muscles in the face of competition. From now on, the Teryx will be able to focus on what it excels at, which is an recreational SxS with spicy handling that is in line with Kawasaki’s DNA.
Its off-road and sport capabilities are superbly balanced, so it’s just as fun to drive as a Polaris RZR. Superb acceleration and strong torque at all revs, especially at low/mid revs, are two of the reasons why the fun factor is there.
The fact that it’s delivered with high performance Fox shocks should not be ignored. The double-wishbone suspension, with its gas-charged shocks with piggyback reservoirs, adjustable preload, and 24 positions of compression damping, contributes hugely to the sporty feel and effective control of the way the vehicle’s body moves.
Its off-road and sport capabilities are magnificently balanced in such a way that it’s just as enjoyable to drive as a Polaris RZR. Superb acceleration, powerful torque at all rpms, especially low and mid rpms, are just a few of the reasons why there’s no shortage of pleasure. You’ll have a lot of trouble behaving on board this really cool Kawi that’s always ready to meet the biggest challenges.
Its centrifugal clutch eliminates the jolt of the CVT belt when activated. It helps to precisely control the gas pedal in rocky areas or on other difficult terrain and prolongs the life of the belt, of course.
Kawasaki has succeeded in installing two rear seats in the Teryx 4 by sacrificing much of the bed’s capacity. In the two-seat version, the bed, with 600-lbs. of capacity, can tilt and houses two completely watertight containers with a 180-litre capacity. The Teryx 4 has a 300lb capacity and no storage areas, but it does have two very comfortable passenger seats. Kawasaki hasn’t forgotten the work aspect. The vehicle is equipped with a 2-inch receiver hitch and is capable of towing up to 1,300 lbs.
This machine is remarkably versatile. Kawasaki carefully keeps it up to date and has made it one of the best buys on the market.
What’s new?
Discontinuation of the basic version for the two-passenger model.
We appreciate :
- The versatility of the vehicle which holds its own in all situations: work, hiking, rough terrain, winter trails, etc.
- Advanced suspension with gas-adjustable Fox shocks contributes to sharp handling and passenger comfort.
- The S LE version, which adds sensible equipment: hardtop, 14-inch aluminum rims and better quality Maxxis tires, LED headlights, etc.
We dislike:
- Because of the centrally mounted engine, there is a lot of noise and heat in the cabin.
- The model is aging.
- The basic version of the Teryx4 is to be avoided. Look for the S LE version.
