2025 Can-Am Outlander 850 and 850 MAX

2025 Can-Am Outlander 850

– PUBLICITÉ –

A big event for Can-Am this year, the time has come to replace the aging Outlander G2s that have been roaming the trails for more than 10 years with the new generation called G3. The G2s were not decommissioned, but the Outlander 700 showed that Can-Am was ready to take the concept further. The engineers repeated the development process adopted for the Outlander 700 and the results are convincing.

The bodywork has a marked family resemblance to the Outlander 700. It also has a very nice finish. The wide mudguards and closed engine cover panels will protect you very effectively from wheel spray. The riding position is high and unobstructed with an almost perfect handlebar/footrest/saddle triangle. The saddle has one of the softest padding in the category. The manufacturer has also provided storage space as standard. There is a closed, waterproof front trunk in the front luggage rack, and a compartment in front of the driver’s seat for storing a cell phone, equipped with a USB connection. Finally, there is a removable rear trunk, reminiscent of a toolbox.

Can-Am has also addressed the worst defects of its G2 generation vehicle: heat and mechanical noise. To manage heat output for the occupants, the engine has been installed behind closed side panels. The gear and belt noise that afflicted the old Outlander G2 has been greatly improved thanks to the attention paid during design.

The engine is a brand new 999 cm3 V-twin. In fact, the 850 and the 1000R share the same engine block and have the same displacement. What differentiates the engines of the 850 and 1000R is a different engine mapping as well as a cooling system and a stronger clutch for the 1000R. The 850 engine develops 82 HP and 66 lb-ft of torque. It has no difficulty in moving the vehicle. The electronic management system has two systems. The first is the driving mode (ITC) which allows the power delivery to be adjusted in three modes: Work, Standard, Sport engine brake (iEB). The second is an intelligent engine brake management system (iEB) which is adjustable to three levels.

Power is transmitted to the ground via a continuously variable transmission that operates smoothly and quietly. The four-wheel drive system fitted to the versions is equipped with a disengageable front differential. The differentials have a variable level of automatic locking sophistication depending on the quad version.

The Outlander 850 has independent suspension on all four wheels with double wishbones. This suspension provides 10.8 inches of travel at the front and 12 inches at the rear. Combined together, this results in a generous ground clearance of almost 12 inches, which is remarkable.

On the trail, the mechanics express themselves with ease and the traction is excellent. The 82 horsepower is deployed in a fluid manner. The 2025 Can-Am Outlander DPS 850 offers a behavior that is both fun and sporty. The accelerations are quite striking for this type of vehicle, as are the powerful pick-ups.

Its robust size and weight of 942 lbs do not overly limit its aggressive driving. What’s more, they are excellent assets for work. Its towing capacity of 1830 lbs (830 kg) is worth mentioning. If you want to tow a load or transport equipment for an expedition, it is also designed for that.

It is also worth noting that the space for the rear passenger is among the most spacious and user-friendly.

The Outlander 850 is available in three trim levels in a single-seater or two-passenger MAX version. Unfortunately, the XT-P version with gas shocks is no longer available with the 850 in the G3 generation.

  • The Outlander 850, which is the fairly stripped-down base version.
  • The Outlander 850 DPS and 850 MAX DPS add power steering and the more sophisticated Visko-Lock QE differential. And aluminum wheels.
  • The Outlander 850 XT and MAX 850 XT add a 3500 lb winch, front and rear bumpers, a premium glove box for cell phone and charger, and 26-inch XPS Trail King tires on 14-inch aluminum wheels.

WHAT’S NEW?

  • New model.

We like:

  • The overall performance of the Outlander 850, which is very competent in all areas: performance, comfort, road holding. The 850 is a well-rounded model.

We like less:

  • The Outlander X-TP with gas shock absorbers is no longer available with the 850 engine.
