The Scrambler name is one of the oldest Polaris names in the world of quads. Polaris was one of the first companies, along with Yamaha, to exploit the concept of merging a sport quad bike with a four-wheel drive system. The current Scrambler hit the market in 2013 with the 850 engine and gave a convincing replica to the Renegade 800 with an unbeatable recipe: great power, improved traction, ever-present smoothness and efficiency, matched by comfort worthy of Polaris’ reputation.
The XP 1000 S takes the dynamic and off-road capabilities of a quad in this class to the next level. In addition to a widened track to 55 inches, it benefits from a new platform, the front differential and driveshafts of the RZR XP 1000 for more durability, power steering, an incisive transmission, Walker Evans adjustable gas suspension, aluminum wheels, LED lighting with an integrated 11-inch bar. Polaris spares no effort to offer a vehicle capable of delivering high-level performance. Indeed, the 89-horsepower ProStar 1000 engine offers exceptional acceleration with great power transferred to the ground. Wide, long-travel suspension and precise steering work together to control the machine’s momentum without sacrificing comfort. Note that the steering has been revised this year to offer a three-mode adjustment and is equipped with damping to avoid wobbling in the trail.
The Scrambler has a very forgiving ease of use and a personality worthy of Dr Jeckyll and Mr Hyde. As much as it can devour the trail with the furious howl of its engine, it can also gently cruise you. This machine has unprecedented versatility in the niche, in particular through its ability to transport equipment, and will meet both your needs for long hiking relays, thanks to its good level of comfort, and your desires to have fun, thanks to the playful nature of his handling.
Polaris also offers an 850cc version of its Scrambler. This version is somewhat less equipped than the big brother: no more aluminum rims, power steering, wider rims and gas suspensions. However, the version of the Scrambler 850 is not one-armed. The high-powered 850 EFI SOHC twin-cylinder engine providing 78 horsepower that pushes without counting its effort, combined with the sporty tuned suspension and the precise steering, will take you quickly to indecent speeds, and with complete confidence.
WHAT’S UP ?
Nothing for 2025.
We appreciate :
- The balance of driving between comfort and performance. The concentration is stronger on the XP 1000 S, but still appreciable with the 850.
- Polaris’ attention to details that make the difference in everyday use, such as the right splash guard and small racks that will carry the picnic.
We dislike:
- The lack of power steering on the 850.
