Polaris Ranger XP Kinetic

There are no more half measures; Polaris is taking it seriously by offering the all-electric Ranger XP Kinetic. Unlike its sibling Ranger EV, which is rather minimalist, the XP Kinetic shares the body and chassis of the big Ranger XP. You can quickly recognize the XP Kinetic by the strip of LEDs that crosses the top of the grille from edge to edge.

The Ranger’s interior has a well-crafted design for an SSV that aims to be utilitarian. The seats adopt a 60/40 split-bench configuration like in a pickup truck and have an extra inch of cushioning, making them very comfortable. The dashboard is complete and gives good information on the vehicle’s energy management status. It can even accommodate a screen for the Ride and Command app.

The Ranger XP Kinetic offers a higher performance level than the petrol version. The electric mechanics deliver 130 horsepower (82 hp for the gas-powered Ranger XP) and a solid 140 pound-feet of torque. It retains the capacity of 1500 pounds of material in the bed and a towing capacity of 2500 pounds. The suspension provides 10 inches of travel and efficient damping. With the ground clearance increased to 14 inches and the significant net mass of an electric vehicle, it will be necessary to see if body roll is adequately controlled at high speed.

On the technology side, the Ranger XP Kinetic is much more advanced than the small Ranger EV which was removed from the lineup, because it is very close to an electric automobile. Depending on the version, the vehicle is equipped with a 19.4 kWh or 29.8 kWh Li-ion battery which gives a theoretical range of 73 km or 130 km, which gets to be interesting. Kinetic energy is recovered during braking and returned to the battery. Finally, Polaris has integrated a combined level 1 anPolaris Ranger XP Kineticd 2 charger port, which, with a 240-volt charging station, will recharge the vehicle from 0% to 100% in about five hours.

The Ranger XP Kinetic is offered in two trim levels: Premium and Ultimate.

  • The Premium version comes with the 14.9 kWh battery and 3kW onboard charger, power steering, aluminum wheels with 29-inch Pro Armor X-Terrain tires, LED lighting, front bumper, and a full skid plate.
  • The Ultimate package adds to the Premium version a greater capacity 29.8 kWh battery and a 6 kW onboard charger, the Ride and Command system with a 7-inch screen, and speakers in the dashboard.

WHAT’S NEW?

  • Nothing for 2025.

Pros:

  • The XP Kinetic offers a high level of technology, which is close to what is offered in the automotive industry. It represents a viable and innovative alternative for an off-road vehicle

Cons:

  • The autonomy of the batteries does not yet allow long rides without recharge.
  • Recharging time is very long on a type 1 charging station (120 volts).
