Some things don’t go out of style, they’ve been on the market for ages and they are here to stay. For as long as I can remember, open-face type helmets are part of the motorsport industry, and no one can doubt their efficiency.
In the 80s, when I was a young boy and I began to be interested in motorized vehicles, I am reminded that back then my father had this type of open-face helmet. He probably made this purchase for its economic benefits (it was inexpensive back then, and it is still the case today) and for the benefit of having the face uncovered. In the previous years, for many people wearing a helmet was much more a legal obligation than a security aspect, and I presume it is the legal aspect that my father was giving priority to.
In our present day, wearing a helmet is an integral part of the off-road rider routine, mostly for the security sake of the rider, just like it is the requirement to wear a seat belt in a car.
The CKX Origin Pilot Helmet
The helmet we have in hand is certainly one that everyone will love at first sight. Its aesthetic appearance starts off with huge white stars on each side of the shell followed by the sober but tasteful colors, as well as the high-quality strap behind the shell that helps keep the rider’s goggles in place. The helmet shell is made of injection molded thermoplastic that offers very good rigidity to resist shocks and impacts.
The interior is very neat and of good quality, thanks to its brownish checkered suede liner which is soft and has comfort levels comparable to a helmet of a much higher price. The inner liners and cheek pads are removable for easy maintenance. The retaining strap is made of a mixture of the same suede and black leatherette material. Its double D-ring fastening system with padding is more like a vintage look. The comfort is exemplary and a ride of several hours wearing the CKX Origin is very pleasant. Feeling the effect of the wind and the cool breeze of the morning dew is very exhilarating and offers a different experience from the closed helmets we usually wear.
Among these specifications that should not be neglected, its lightweight of 1100g (2.4 lb.) is very low, which is very popular for the long rides. This helmet is of course DOT approved and meets the established standards for your safety.
When purchased, a small black visor is included, it helps protect you from the weather, and it attaches to three snaps at the front of the shell. It is also possible to equip this open face helmet with a full complete sun visor from CKX Origin brand in smoke or mirror finishes (see photos) sold separately.
The CKX Origin Pilot helmet is certainly a piece of equipment that will not go out of fashion with the years. At a price as low as $109.99, you will agree that it is inexpensive and that it is accessible to all budgets.
