2025 Can-Am Maverick Sport DPS

The Maverick Sport, a 60-inch wide machine is based on the widely popular Maverick Trail machine. Can-Am is already jumping in full force with the Sport with several special-edition models :mud, rock crawling, leisurely or inspired hiking. Indeed, the Maverick Sport is offered in two-seater, Max four-seater, specialized versions Sport X RC for rock, Sport X MR for mud and Sport X XC, which is a spicy version with its elaborate suspensions, tires 29 inches and its exclusive Smart Lok traction technology.

Can-Am uses the same base engine in both its 1000 and 1000R Maverick Sport models. The 1000 DPS uses a 75-horsepower, 976cc Rotax V-twin engine that uses electronic fuel injection with an iTC intelligent throttle control drive-by-wire system that lets you select the power delivery curve mapping that best fits your conditions and driving style. The 1000R is the same engine but tuned differently with a bigger intake and exhaust, as well as a different CVT system, all borrowed from the X3 lineup, that combine to give the 1000R 100 horsepower. Both engines run through a Quick Response System CVT transmission that has an extra-low low range and active decent control.

The Maverick Sports DPS and Sport Max DPS are equipped with the SHOWA 2.0 suspension while the more upscale versions are equipped with the infinitely adjustable Fox 2.5 Podium suspension. Although similar in appearance to the smaller Maverick Trail, the trail behavior is sportier and more incisive, the wheels being located at the extreme corners and the suspensions much more refined. Combined with a wheelbase of 90.6 inches and width of 60 inches, the footprint of the vehicle on the ground is very large. The layout of the cabin is comparable to that of the Maverick Trail, but being freed from the constraint of 50 inches wide, the occupants will find ease in width, in particular thanks to the different shape of the doors. There’s a decent amount of storage inside the cabin, with glove boxes on the driver and passenger sides. The rear cargo area can hold up to 300 lbs (136 kg) of gear, and if you really need more, there’s a two-inch hitch receiver offering 1,500 lbs (680 kg) of towing capacity .

The Maverick Sport has the mission to cover a much wider range of uses than the Trail. The Sport DPS features power steering, 100-horsepower 1000R engine, unlocking rear differential, 12-inch aluminum wheels with Big Horn 2.0 tires, LED signature in the headlights, premium half doors and painted body. The Sport DPS is also available in a four-passenger Max version.

Two specialized versions are also available for the user’s enjoyment: the Sport X RC specialized for climbing rock notches and the X MR for navigating the sliliest mud. These two versions have a lot of equipment in common: they have a width of 64 inches, an electronically lockable Smart-Lok front differential, 14-inch aluminum wheels with 29- or 30-inch tires (30-inch Maxxis Liberty for the X RC, 30-inch ITP Cryptid for the X MR), a 4500-pound winch of capacity,   front and rear bumpers, a signature LED grille. The presentation colors are different and the X MR is equipped with raised air inlets and outlets.

The Maverick Sport occupies a strategic place in Can-Am’s hierarchy of side-by-side vehicles, as it bridges the gap between the quiet Maverick Trail, the Commander and the hot Maverick X3. It is a vehicle that is intended to be versatile and that will respond to all potential situations on the trail.

  • Trail holding is good and the engine works very well with the transmission.
