The Renegade is a hybrid that combines the qualities of a sport ATV with the four-wheel drive of a regular machine. While Can Am didn’t invent the niche, they created a big change when they introduced the Renegade 800 in 2006. A hell of a beast had just been unleashed.
The strong design introduced in 2006 has not aged a bit. The riding position is upright and high on the Renegade, and surprisingly it can suit both small and tall riders. The large fuel tank is sculpted so that it can be squeezed between the thighs when driving fast. The seat is comfortable and the footrests provide plenty of room to move around during weight transfers.
The Renegade’s suspension is four-wheel independent. The front suspension is a double-wishbone swing-arm type with anti-dive geometry, which offers 22.9 cm (9 in) of travel. The independent rear suspension is Torsional Trailing-arm Independent type (TTI) and has 23.6 cm ( 9.3 in) of travel. The advantage of this configuration with a longitudinal travel to the chassis rather than transverse like the competition is to eliminate changes in the camber or offset of the wheels. Directional stability is improved. While the shocks are oil-based on the Gade 650, the Renegade 1000 X xc gets FOX PERFORMANCE SERIES 1.5 PODIUM RC2 Piggyback shocks that can take your trail ride to a whole new level when properly tuned. Also, the 1000 X Xc adds aluminum wheels, tri-mode power steering, skid plates under the vehicle, handlebars with handguards
Can-Am has created one of the best possible compromises between a sport and a utility ATV. This recipe is so right that even after 18 years on the market, it is still on top of its class. The Gade offers extraordinary versatility in its mechanical cocktail. The design is daring, the vehicle comfortable, vigorous, and fun to ride.
