It took some time, but Can-Am’s 50-inch wide side-by-side is finally here, and it will meet all the regulatory restrictions regarding width in North America. By introducing the Maverick Trail, Can-Am will be joining the ranks of its main rivals, who have already been producing 50-inch ATVs for several years.
The Maverick Trail is offered in a standard version, which includes power steering, an ECO/SPORT driving mode, an unlocking rear differential, 12-inch aluminum rims, an LED signature in the headlights and two engine platforms. The Maverick Trail 700 features a new Rotax 700cc single-cylinder that delivers 52 horsepower and 41 lb-ft of torque. There’s also the 976cc, 75-horsepower Rotax V-twin that makes the Maverick a leader in the 50-inch class.
Can-Am’s “Quick Response” transmission is a CVT with a range of speeds, including an Extra-Low, for extreme terrain, and an electronic engine-brake system to improve control when descending.
The vehicle is narrow but long, and the wheels are located at the outset of each corner. This gives the Trail a 90.6-inch wheelbase, which is very long in its category. This wheelbase allows tight, precise handling while offering stable driving. Thanks to the suspension stabilizer bars, the vehicle can adequately control any rolling effect, making it very confidence inspiring to drive.
As for the layout of the cabin and the storage space, there’s decent storage volume inside the cabin, with glove boxes on the driver’s and the passenger’s side. There are also cup holders. The glove boxes are not big, but the will accommodate your phone and other small items. The rear cargo area can hold up to 136 kg (300 lbs.) of equipment, and if you need more room, there’s a 2-inch receiver that makes it possible to tow up to 680 kg (1,500 lbs.).
In addition to power steering, the DPS version brings side half doors.
The Maverick Trail is a purpose-built trail vehicle that handles extremely well and is extremely fun to drive.
What’s new?
New colors.
We appreciate :

- Trail holding is good and the engine works very well with the transmission.
We dislike:
- Limited legroom.
