It is by far one of the most exciting models to ride in the ATV world. Without going into great flights full of superlatives, let’s simply remember that the vehicle is Can-Am’s standard-bearer for very high performance in the quad world. Moreover, BRP takes the matter very seriously and has continued to develop the performance of its thoroughbred in order to stand up to the eternal rival Polaris, in particular with the latest version of the even more volcanic 200 horsepower turbo engine. . Although the ultra-long travel suspensions are very effective, Can-Am also offers the Smart-Shox continuous electronic adjustment suspension.
Offered on the outperforming Turbo RRs, it’s a fully self-adjusting suspension that controls both compression and rebound for better handling precision. The driver will be able to adjust the damper settings from the dashboard according to three modes: Comfort, Sport and Sport +.
By constantly monitoring wheel position and vehicle speed, the system acts on both compression and rebound and can go from full compliance to full firmness in seventeen milliseconds (0.017s). This will give you better contact with the ground. By constantly adjusting the suspension in real time, stability is improved, thereby increasing cornering and heading stability. Finally, comfort is improved by eliminating unwanted bottoming and bouncing. You have to control this power and transmit it effectively to the ground…
The X3 family is vast, but to keep things simple, just know that it intersects along three logical axes: turbo engine version, track width and specialty package. For the engines, it is possible to obtain a Turbo version increased to 135 horsepower this year or a Turbo RR version which develops an electrifying 200 horsepower. Track widths are referred to in the model designation as DS for 64-inch-wide and RS for 72-inch-wide. Finally, you will find specific use sets such as RC for technical progression on rock, X MR for mud and MAX for four-seater versions.
The beating heart under the hood of the X3s is a turbocharged 900cc Rotax ACE three-cylinder engine. The entry-level engine offers 135 horsepower, which should meet all your rational needs, but it would have been less intoxicating. Indeed, the wizards at Can-Am have concocted the Turbo RR which produces an explosive 200 horsepower.
The vehicle is suspended by the FOX RC2 suspension with multiple adjustable settings for compression and rebound to meet different user needs, with 22 inches (55.9 cm) front travel and 24 inches (61 cm) at the rear which makes it the leader within the industry. Combined with a width of 72 inches (182.9 cm) (there is also a 64-inch version) and a wheelbase of 102 inches (259 cm), it will ensure full stability when attacking curves at high speed.
The X3 X RC Turbo RR are dream vehicles for rocky terrain enthusiasts. They feature Can-Am’s new Smart-Lok differential. It’s a fully lockable front differential with electronically controlled automatic modes. You can also press a button to access pre-programmed, intelligent calibrations of your riding style. These models come with 20 inches of travel and 30-inch tires designed for rock.
If it’s mud you like, the X MR Turbo RR rigs are available in 64-inch or 72-inch widths. They are also grafted with a Smart-Lok differential and special oversized air intakes mounted around the frame to let the machine breathe in the most sticky and threatening mud. You also get 30-inch ITP Cryptid mud tires that will happily catapult mud through the air with the fury of 200 horsepower.
The Maverick X3 range represents the pinnacle of sport quads on the planet at the moment and it is a privilege to be able to own such a machine for your own pleasure. With great power comes great responsibility, and any X3 owner should choose carefully where to play this powerful turbocharged treat.
WHAT’S NEW?
Nothing for 2025.
We appreciate :
- The Maverick X3 is near the pinnacle marketed by BRP in very high performance UTVs. It goes without saying that the vehicle’s performance is astounding and will go even further with the introduction of the Smart-Shox active suspension.
- The entry-level Maverick X3 Turbo is a good value against the competition and even in the BRP lineup.
We dislike:
- Elite prices for the most luxurious versions.
