It’s the best-selling sport quad in history, and rightly so. Even though this quad has held a high rank in the sport ATV world for a long time, it is the last survivor of heavy sport ATV.
The Raptor delivers the ultimate thrill with its tremendous power and lightweight construction, a combination that other manufacturers might come back to at some point, we hope. Its hybrid steel / aluminum frame, controlled infill aluminum subframe, and cast aluminum swingarm combine to create a super strong structure. Let’s face it, a 2WD ATV bike fitted with a straight axle, powered by a light chain and manual transmission, is the most satisfying, rewarding, logical, and safe machine to use for thrilling rides for the experienced pilot on rough terrain. A utility-size 4×4 machine does not have the same driving feel like a true sport quad.
An increase in compression from 9.2: 1 to 10.0: 1 produces more horsepower, allowing the rider to control the ATV’s angle of attack at all times. The cylinder head and piston have been redesigned, fuel injection mapping, engine timing, and ignition timing have been fine-tuned to improve performance. Much like the constantly revised YFZ 450R, this engine uses Yamaha’s YFI fuel injection for consistent engine performance in all conditions. Not only is it strong, but it is also smooth and uniform. A new front tire has been adapted to this extra power.
Finally, you can get a rebound-controlled KYB gas suspension, standard on all models.
