The King Quad 400 has been going strong for more than 20 years without any noticeable changes. The F400A version comes with a CVT automatic transmission and the F400F is equipped with a five-speed transmission with semi-automatic clutch, one of the last still available on the market.  Both can be perfect for those who want to have fun while staying on a tight budget.

This ATV is not the model that will generate strong feelings, but it is fun to drive and will know how to fill you with joy if you take full advantage of its many talents when out exploring. Its 376 cm3, 4-valve engine is simply built, and it is one of the rare quads that is air-cooled. On the other hand, it’s fuel injected, a clear advantage ensuring good performance whatever the season. This compact engine will provide predictable linear acceleration.

In summer as in winter, start-up is instantaneous because of the electronic fuel injection. In addition, the KingQuad 400 is more frugal when it comes to fuel consumption than other quads of comparable size. Thanks to its 4×4 system activated using a lever on the handlebars, you’ll be able to get out of a sticky situation, but you won’t be able to lock the differential. It’s well adapted to long trail rides thanks to its T-shaped seat, which is as comfortable as that of the KingQuad 750.

These quads are compact, and their 82-inch length allows them to fit into the 6 ½-foot bed of a pick-up truck. Nonetheless, it’s well-built, and the digital instrumentation is standard. The Maxxis tires are also capable on difficult terrain and preferable to the KingQuad 750’s Carliles.

This quad is modest, but it will provide good service for many years.

What’s new?

Nothing for 2025

We appreciate:

  • The mix of well-proven mechanics that work well and will last for decades without a hitch.
  • Respectable comfort for an entry-level machine.

We dislike:

  • The general look which is beginning to date seriously. Without redoing everything under the hood, a dusting of the bodywork would be welcome.
  • Power steering is not available
