Like the Sportsman 570 Touring, the Sportsman 570 6×6 receives a welcome update, as does the Sportsman 570 X2, which returns to the range this year. Both ATVs are equipped with a multifunction dump body and can carry a passenger. In fact, the 6×6 has a space in front of the bed for the passenger, or a raised seat, grab handles and a low backrest. In the case of the X2, the body can be converted into a passenger booster seat.
These two vehicles are Swiss Army knives, designed for work but also for the versatility of being able to transport someone with the driver. In the case of the 6×6, the purpose of the double rear axle is to support loads or transmit traction power on soft ground. In the case of the X2, the working capabilities are less, but you’ll have a more maneuverable vehicle for squeezing through tight spaces.
Both have a body that initially looks like a small pickup box with a rear panel that can tip over and drop its load to the ground. That of the 6×6 has a 38“ x 39†load floor that can take a load of 800 lbs. There’s also an enclosed space under the floor to store small items such as tie-down straps. The X2’s body is smaller and can take a load of 400 lbs. It has no underfloor storage, but a foldaway passenger seat. In three moves, a booster seat for a passenger can be revealed, complete with grab handles and raised running boards.
In both cases, the seats don’t offer the passenger the comfort of the Touring version, as the cushion padding is firm and the backrest is very upright. It will quickly become uncomfortable as the kilometers add up. But it still offers a more-than-acceptable breakdown solution, and its limited comfort is a compromise for the versatile side that lets you enjoy both worlds at all times, depending on the owner’s needs.
Both the 6×6 and the X2 are powered by a competent 44 hp ProStar 570 EFI coupled to a CVT automatic transmission and an on-demand 4WD system. The Sportsman 6×6 is equipped with a six-wheel independent suspension system, with wishbones at the front and two single axles with double wishbones. The X2 features MacPherson front suspension and double-wishbone rear suspension. Standard multi-mode power steering completes the picture for both models.
Both vehicles are offered in a single, well-equipped package: power steering, 14-inch tires, front bumpers and winches, LED headlights, luggage rack extension, Ride Control (easy-to-use gas pedal, geo-fencing, PIN-activated safety system, speed limiter), painted bodywork, Active Descent Control (ADC), Engine Brake System (EBS), unlockable rear differential (for X2 only).
WHAT’S NEW?
- Major overhaul for the 570 6×6.
- 570 X2 back in the range this year.
We like:
- The design for work that will delight its owner: the multifunctional body, power steering, twin-axle rear suspension for the 6×6 that enables it to carry heavier loads, provide traction and lift on soft ground.
- The ability to legally carry a passenger.
- Although the competition plays the card of offering a 1000 cc engine, the ProStar 570 is capable of doing the job properly.
We like it less:
- There’s no Turf mode on the rear axles. Watch out for the lawn with the 6×6!
- The vehicle’s high level of equipment means that prices are expensive.
